Things are really starting to heat up on the Chicago. Tom ‘slips’ again, sleeping with one of the stewardesses on his crew on recent trip to Tokyo. Trina questions him about it after she calls his hotel room and the stewardess answers the phone. This leads Trina to hang all over Tom’s co-pilot during the pool party they have when he gets back from his trip. While they do eventually reconcile, they decide to remain monogamous for the time-being.
As for the Bruce and Melinda, “the hot new runner on the trading floor”, situation, he tries to genuinely mentor her, but when a power outage across Chicago forces him to stay with her in a bar for a number of drinks, she eventually invites him up to her apartment and it’s assumed that he sleeps with her.
Meanwhile, back in the suburbs, where the power is also out, Janet receives an unnerving call from a store claiming that a recent check bounced. In her attempt to find out why Roger did not deposit his check the previous week, she learns from a secretary at the office that he was fired – definitely not how Roger had planned it.
At the same time, Roger stops by to speak with Susan about his ‘secret’ and the fact that he’s trying to find a job before he has to tell Janet – so much for that plan. However, this visit doesn’t appear to be just to discuss this issue. There are definitely sparks flying between the two. The lack of air conditioning during the outage leads them to head over to Tom and Trina’s to join the pool party – bare skin and alcohol – don’t think that will slow things down.
Lastly, Laurie, Susan and Bruce’s daughter, spent the day watching her boyfriend – her previous summer school teacher – play softball game. Turns out he has been offered a full-time position at the school which would cause some issues since she has her senior year still ahead of her. He ends up telling her that he’s not thinking about it and trying to “live in the here and now” so will not yet decide whether to accept the position. As night falls and the lights come back on, she offers to go back to his apartment with him, but he says he wants to take it slow – we’ll see what happens next week.
