Season 4: The Beginning of The End - 1/31/08
It’s finally back! LOST’s first episode in awhile features some revealing flashforward sequences about Hurley - who lands himself back in a mental institution because of his visions of Charlie…
Jack is also in Hurley’s flashforward, and there’s some discussion about the “Oceanic Six”. So far we know that to be Jack, Kate, and Hurley. Who else rounds out the six? Presumably it would be people from the group that went with Jack - my guess would be Desmond, Juliet, and Sayid. Hurley is already of the opinion that they should have never left the island…but Jack isn’t covinced at all - which means that Hurley’s flashforward is at a point in time before Jack’s from last season.
Cutting through all the details, there are three major plot points. First, who are these “rescuers” and what do they want? Second, what is going on with the people who get off the island - and why is it that they ultimately wish they never left? Finally, what happens to the group that went with Locke? Do they just live out their days on the island? Does something bad happen to them, leaving the survivors with an additional burden of guilt?
Some additional thoughts and comments:
- For a good recap of The Beginning of The End, check out the first post on this TV.com message board. Sums everything up very nicely.
- I’m THRILLED to have Kate and Juliet back in my life.
- I’m not as thrilled to see the cabin on the island again. I wish they would just explain it already. Also…apparently that was a quick flash of Jack’s father in the cabin.
- What is the chain of events that leads Hurley off the island? Does this mean that a good portion of Jack’s group defects to Locke’s group - or are they killed?
- Where the heck is the black smoke creature thingy in all this? Why is it so easy to accept the black smoke creature…but not as easy to accept the whole Jacob in the cabin thing. Am I alone on this?
Betting Recap:
Who will the flashback/flashforward sequence be about?
The flashforward sequence was mainly about Hurley - but there were some revealing comments about Jack, so he will get credit as well.
