Confirmed Dead

Confirmed Dead - 2/7/08

This was the strangest episode since they were driving the van through the jungle. Four new characters (with backstories!) were introduced, and about a hundred new questions were brought up.

The plane at the bottom of the ocean has to be part of a cover up. The fact that the cockpit is a part of the wreckage (when we know the cockpit is on the island) says as much. Also, it seems that whoever is in charge of the Dharma initiative is desperately trying to keep the island a secret, and the plane crashing on the island definitely screwed that up. Having the plane “found” is a good way of redirecting everyone’s attention.

As far as the four “rescuers” - well…I don’t know what to think. Why do they want Ben so bad? They’re a seemingly random collection of misfits - how are they connected to each other and to Ben? Why was Daniel so emotional when he saw that the plane was found? Why was a polar bear found in the middle of Tunisia?

I’ll tell you what I don’t believe - I don’t believe in this “cashmere effect”, that the plane was some how split in some 4th dimensional kind of way. That’s not where this show is going. JJ Abram’s is denying that this is a sci-fi show, and I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. Somewhere in all this is a perfectly logical explanation for everything, including the “black smoke creature” that Locke was asking about. That’s my take anyway….I can’t wait to find out though!

Betting Recap:

Who will the next flashback/forward sequences be about?

The show featured flashback sequences around the 4 “rescuers” that landed on the island - “someone else” was the correct answer.

Will there be any physical confrontation between the “rescuers” and any of the following characters?

Ben shot the female rescuer (but did not kill her because she was wearing a bullet proof vest) and Locke shoved her up against a tree. There wasn’t any real physical confrontation with the other rescuers and Jack’s people. “Someone else” is the only answer getting credit here.

Will anyone from Jack’s group be asked if there are more people on the island?

Yes - Jack and Kate were asked where the other people were.

Will anyone from Jack’s group reveal to the “rescuers” that Locke’s group is at the barracks?

No - there was no reference to the barracks by Jack’s group.

Will Hurley reunite with Jack’s group in the next episode?

Nope - Hurley is still with Locke…for now.

Will we find out during the next episode that any of the following characters are also in the “Oceanic Six”?

No - but apparently we will next week!

Will the man that landed on the island ask to be taken to Naomi’s body?

While Daniel did not ask to be taken to Naomi’s body, Miles did. Giving this question credit for a “yes”.
