As soon as I saw that Jack's previously unseen father was to be played by James Cromwell I knew his part would not be small - but it still seems a bit far fetched to me that his father would hire two individuals to carry out a plan to pretend to kill him and Jack only to be killed a few minutes later allowing Jack and his father to capture Jack's brother. That part of the episode felt rushed and too staged. Even by 24 standards.
