Season 7 - Final 12 Perform - 3/11/08
Well, American Idol’s claim that this is their most talented Final 12 yet is sort of holding up so far. While there were some shaky performances last night, I was generally impressed!
Here’s a quick look at each contestant:
Syesha Mercado - It’s interesting (to me anyway) that by the end of the night, I’d forgotten about her.
Chikizie - Say what you will, but his performance was VERY entertaining. I hope he’s able to bring that creativity week to week!
Ramiele Malubay - I feel like the judges didn’t give her enough credit for having an amazing voice, but this was pretty boring.
Jason Castro - You can’t not like this kid. You just can’t.
Carly Smithson - Awesome! Loved this performance. Great song choice (I personally love both the Beatles and Aerosmith versions), and she made a nice twist. I wish she could have sang the whole song.
David Cook - Looks like the “real” real rocker has emerged. Liking this guy more each week.
Brooke White - She’s fantastic. I actually love her emotion, she’s consistently great, and I’m all of a sudden thinking I wouldn’t be surprised to see her in the top 3. Is she the next American Idol? I still don’t think so…but she’s damn good.
David Hernandez - I think he’s dodging a bullet this week. It’ll be interesting to see what he comes back with for his next performance. Was anyone else entertained when he started talking about his job….at the Pizza Bistro (wink wink)?
Amanda Overmeyer - How is anyone sold on her? I don’t understand it one bit. She gets up there and sort of screams and shouts through a song, flailes around doing “Amanda” things, and I’m supposed to like it because she’s staying true to herself? She sucks!
Michael John - I sort of agree, he didn’t really do himself any good or any harm this week. It just sort of…was.
Kristy Lee Cook - Now on the other hand, Kristy probably just shot herself in the foot. I love this girl, but that was terrible. I was dizzy by the end of the song, and not the good kind of dizzy. Not sure if anything can save her.
David Archuletta - Some cracks are forming. Is he going to be able to handle the pressure on a week to week basis?

As much Simon bashing as was going on, this didn’t happen.
