Final Six Perform - 4/25/07
The post-Sanjaya era began last night on American Idol. Last night also represented part one of the American Idol telethon: Idol Gives Back - a legitimately solid charity and a good use of the clout this show has. Here’s the link if you are looking to make a donation:

The theme last night was inspirational music. Overall it was pretty inspiring. The only interesting thing to come out of the show was that Jordin Sparks is getting hot at just the right time. Seems like the judges may be getting behind her too, as they apparently have jumped off the Lakisha bandwagon.
Other than that, there really isn’t much to talk about now that Sanjaya and Haley are gone. I mean, you could always count on a “how atrocious was Sanjaya?” or a “was that a skirt or a belt on Haley” conversation the next morning. Now what are we going to talk about?
Some quick hit thoughts on each performance:
Chris Richardson: Doing just enough to stick around. I’m still waiting for Paula to climb over the judge’s table and maul him.
Melinda Doolittle: Don’t get me wrong, I really really like Melinda, but now I’m starting to get this feeling that she peaked to early. There are SO many episodes of American Idol over the course of a season, and people in this country have extremely short attention spans.
Blake Lewis: Don’t get me wrong, I really really like Blake, but he should only do performances where he’s moving around the stage at all times. I heard someone compare him to Ray Charles last night.
Lakisha Jones: You can read what I wrote about her in my Top 10 rankings from a few weeks back. She’s fighting a losing battle at this point. Meanwhile…I’m feeling pretty darn good about those rankings. You flip Phil Stacy and Chris Sligh, and I’m in pretty darn good shape!
Phil Stacey: I’ve been saying for weeks that I can’t figure out who’s voting for him. Someone reminded me the other day that Phil is a military man. He’s got the armed services vote! That explains it! That’s huge right now! It explains everything!
Jordin Sparks: In sports, there are teams that get hot towards the end of the regular season, and no one wants to face those teams in the playoffs (the Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers from two years ago is a great example of this). Well, Jordin is the Pittsburgh Steelers of American Idol right now.
I think we’re seeing Blake and Lakisha in the bottom two tonight, with Lakisha going home.
