Final 7 Results Show - Sanjaya Goes Home - 4/18/07
I held off writing this for a couple days. One of the most polarizing contestants in American Idol history was just voted off the show, and what could be said? It’s amazing how big this “controversy” became, and it was a topic that would inevitably come up within seconds of mentioning the show. There have always been certain contestants on American Idol that have made it farther then they should have (see Kevin Covais and Bucky Covington from season five), so why all the fuss over Sanjaya?
Personally, I’m a little bummed that he’s off. While I was in no way rooting for him to succeed, you have to admit that there was significant entertainment value in having him around. The kid had balls.
In any case, since there’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said, I thought I’d put together a little tour of what other people are saying. Here are some links to various idol related blogs and news outlets as they react to the end of the Sanjaya Malakar era:

Chris Sligh’s blog entry regarding the elimination of the century mentions that he’s worried that Sanjaya has been shielded from the media, and may be in for it. Chris asks that we all “say a little prayer” for the kid.
BuddyTV attempts to analyze all the factors that lead to Sanjaya making it this far.

That last one gets me. People need to find other things to do with their time. But I guess that’s what make American Idol so interesting, right?
